“The Student Links programme was an amazing opportunity to bring the Spanish language to life for our students. The Year 10 students got so much out of it in terms of academic enrichment at a time they were preparing for their speaking controlled assessment. Not only that but the students were very well matched indeed and the Spanish students settled in both with our student and also the other students in classes. They created a sense of intrigue throughout the whole school and across the school students increased their confidence and willingness to try and communicate in Spanish. The impact it had upon our school was fantastic and we cannot wait to have some more students this academic year. A highly recommended programme for any school wishing to enrich the lives of their students and their student’s families!”

Head of St Peter’s RC School said

“It was such a pleasure to work with the student links team, they made it very easy for the school to host a Spanish student. It was also reassuring to know that all the necessary checks and insurances were in place. We look forward to working together again this year in order to broaden out pupils’ horizons and to allow them to develop their understanding of different cultures and languages”

“The thing I like most about the visit was the whole sharing experience. We thoroughly enjoyed showing Tomas, London and Wales and it also made us more aware of how important it is to share quality family time together, Tomas staying with us made us look at how we live our busy lives and reminded us to take time out. Tomas had a great sense of humour and it was brilliant to share experiences and compare family life as well!”

Feedback from our Ashton on Mersey School

“We really are thrilled to have been able to take part in this programme over the past couple of years! Our pupils have loved the experience and the Spanish pupils really helped to add an exciting element to our pupils’ studies of Spanish. It is an extremely popular event amongst our pupils and we look forward to many more future visits! Thank you, Student Links!”

Critchley

Mr and Mrs Critchley:

“Our family benefited so much from the experience of hosting a Spanish student. We had fun showing Jaime the local area and providing him with lots of opportunities to practice his English. The host school were very welcoming and Jaime made lots of new friends. My son got on so well with Jaime that he went to Madrid earlier this year and spent some time with him and was welcomed into his school. If anyone is considering hosting a Spanish student but isn’t quite sure, I would say ‘Go for it! You won’t regret it.”

Laura Bennett aged 12:

“This summer we had a girl called Maria come to stay with us, at first it was a bit awkward but as we got to know her we found she was really nice! We are both the same age so this was good for us, and she speaks English really well! I learnt a lot from her as I take Spanish at school. Maria got on really well with my friends and coped with the schoolwork amazingly. We had so much fun together; she spent her birthday with us while she was over here so to celebrate we went to Gulliver’s World theme park and had a great day out. It was especially fun as she had never been before! After that, we went to Frankie and Benny’s to have a meal and the staff brought out a One Direction cake for her because Maria loves One Direction just like me! We had a great bonding experience and I can’t wait for her to come back this year and hope she continues to visit us and vice versa. We keep in touch by messaging and Instagram and we have a close friendship. Thank you! “
